I Write

Mostly poems, but also shows, plays and occasionally, prose (fiction and non-fiction).

I have two books of children’s poetry published by Otter-Barry Books - The Dictionary of Dads (2017) and The Magic of Mums (2020).

I have written a spoken word family show (either a narrative theatre show or a stand-up poetry interactive performance) every year since 2010.

My most recent works are the interactive shows The Wild Wild Word Show (2021), The Gift of the Gadget (2022) and Rhyme Runners (2023).

I Perform

I deliver regular stand-up poetry performances (with lots of comedy and audience participation) to schools, libraries and theatres across the country.

Since 2014, I have also toured spoken word theatre productions with Half Moon Theatre, including the ensemble shows One Way Ticket and Boy’s Don’t and three solo theatre shows Big Wow Small Wonder, Young Herbert’s Horrors and The House That Jackson Built.

I’m also an experienced compere, hosting cabaret, slam competitions and open-mike poetry evenings.

I Facilitate Workshops

My work is as much about people as it is about poetry and the aspect of my job I love the most is my visits to schools, libraries and community spaces inspiring and encouraging creative writing and communication.

One day visits are lots of fun - but I also enjoy longer-term work. Recent projects have included: guest facilitation with adult writers at Creative Response in Surrey, helping to produce poems inspired by the local Space 2 Grow Community Garden; working with Eastside Education and The Essex Book Festival running an inter-school Slam Poetry Performance; creative projects in London schools linked to the curriculum with The Ministry of Stories; The People of 1381 Project engaging local children through poetry and history with The Poetry Society ; inter-generational projects between older people in sheltered housing and primary schools. and a collaborative visual art/poetry response to the pandemic an the UN charter of Children’s Rights with The London School of Economics.

Sometimes I am also asked to judge young people’s writing competitions (for example, Canterbury Festival or Worcestershire Young Writers) or to host competition celebrations.
